Sailboat Racing Adult & Junior Learn to Sail
Giving back to the community is of great importance to our members and we work for numerous local St. Clair County organizations, such as, The Hunter House, Women’s Shelter and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Our Leukemia Cup Regatta has raised over $1.2 million over the past 20 years.
The Community
Live bands, cocktail parties, holiday parties, themed dinners, guest speakers, Mackinac Race activities and the annual gala Commodores’ Ball are just a few of the great opportunities for fun at PHYC. Our members are engaged in the creation, planning and implementing of our many social activities and local community outreach programs.
Social Activities
PHYC members have access to storage and launch facilities on the Black River, part
of the Island Loop Route National Water Trail.
Kayaking
Through our association with the Sarnia Yacht Club, we offer a comprehensive and fun program for adults and juniors taught by certified instructors. We hold more than 60 sailboat races throughout the year. Each is conducted by certified race committee members. Around the buoy, long distance, weekend regattas, one-design and mid-week racing are all part of the fun. We sail and cruise as a group to destinations such as Georgian Bay, Lexington and Sanilac as well as the opportunity to participate in organized international cruising.
Cruising Reciprocal Privileges
Members of PHYC receive guest privileges at the Great Lakes yacht clubs and most yacht clubs nationwide.
Non Boat Owners
PHYC has an active social calendar for those not involved with sailing as well as many opportunities for the non-boat owners’ involvement in the sailing / crewing and race committee experiences.
History
From the early 20th century to the current day, Port Huron Yacht Club has had a lively history and continues an active role in the sailing community of the Great Lakes region. Founded in 1906 by a group of dedicated boating enthusiasts, the Port Huron Yacht Club is a not-for-profit organization and has been promoting fellowship and our core values ever since.
Our Membership
Made up mariners who appreciate and respect the water, sailing and boating on the Great Lakes, from beginners to experts, we love to share knowledge and experiences with each other. You don’t need a boat to enjoy membership. You can volunteer as a crew member or join the Race Committee team.
