The Port Huron Power Squadron is offering a basic boating safety course in Port Huron this spring. The six-week course, is designed to familiarize recreational boat operators with the fundamentals of safe boating.

The course includes an introduction to Michigan boating laws, boat safety equipment and safe boating practices. It provides operator certification for Personal Water Craft (PWC). Participants also qualify for certification in Michigan, the surrounding Great Lakes and connecting water ways as well as in most other states that require boating education before operating a watercraft.

Classes will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 25 and May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. The cost is $45 per registrant, with additional family members invited to participate for $5 each. Participants must pass a test at the end of the course. Certificates will be awarded upon successful completion, which may also reduce boating insurance rates.
